An upcoming chapter in The Book of Kin
Order Isoptera follows a strong-willed Termite who is in search of something more beyond her duties building a mound within her colony. One day, she discovers and ventures down a tunnel, and finds herself at an entrance of an ant’s nest.
The Termite gets a job with the ant colony and assists them with expanding their underground nest. The novelty of the new wears off when she notices that slower ants (sick/elderly) are getting pushed down a trapdoor by soldiers. Out of curiosity, the termite investigates as to where the trap door leads and learns that they're all dying underground. In attempts to save the “rejects”, she instructs them to make a tower. The ants team up and climb their way out. The Termite guides them to the tunnel and back to the mound, where they are warmly welcomed and given a sense of purpose. Together, the termites and rescued ants build a home.
The theme and message reflects a desire for a society where citizens, workers, family and friends aren't left behind or discriminated against based on their age or abilities.
