The Girl Who Could Hear Grass Grow - The Book of Kin
An upcoming chapter in The Book of Kin
A blind girl, who is looked after by her family, accidentally knocks over an oil lamp and sets their house on fire. None of her family survive, including her brother who lost his life while saving hers.
Due to her actions, she is faced with harsh judgement, mistreated and banished by others in the village. Forced to fend for herself, the Girl runs away into the unknown. Overwhelmed by all the “menacing” sounds of the jungle, she descends into a state of panic. She trips and falls down a sinkhole, where she meets a gigantic snail. The snail helps her back to above ground and as time passes, she eventually learns to communicate with nature. Her blindness becomes a gift as her enhanced hearing enables her to hear her family speak to her from the flora. In the end, she is finally able to forgive herself.
