About the Creator
Tamlyn is the creator of SoXiety and The Book of Kin. She is a deep thinker with incredible artistic talent in a wide range of 2D and 3D mediums and has worked on film and TV, David Jones' Christmas windows, books, artworks and sculptures.
SoXiety is her first solo work as both author and illustrator.
Tamlyn Teow - Biography
My artistic practice is deeply rooted in storytelling through visual art, focusing on themes that resonate with the human condition. With a background in commerce and economics, my journey into the arts began in earnest when I left a corporate banking career in 2013 to pursue my passion for art and storytelling. This decision led me to complete a Master's in Production Design at the Victorian College of Arts in 2017, where I honed my skills in creating immersive visual narratives. One of my key achievements includes working in the art departments of several high-profile film and television productions, such as The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and Marvel's Shang-Chi. These experiences allowed me to develop a strong foundation in visual storytelling, collaborating with talented teams to bring complex and imaginative worlds to life.
Since 2018, I have co-designed the David Jones' Christmas Windows, an iconic project that required a delicate balance of creativity and technical precision.
As an illustrator, my work spans multiple genres and formats, including book covers and forthcoming picture books like SoXiety and Blue, Dragon of the Sea. My published works, such as The Other Side of the Clouds by Matt Samuel and A Chicken Called Hope by Danny Parker, reflect my commitment to creating art that inspires hope and curiosity.
My artistic vision is to create works that not only engage the viewer but also provoke thought and dialogue about the world we live in. My practice is characterised by a meticulous attention to detail, a deep understanding of visual storytelling, and a commitment to exploring the complexities of the human experience through art.
The Book of Kin—a collection of graphic novel style works of which SoXiety is the first—is a project that embodies these principles, and I am eager to bring the remaining stories to life, continuing my journey of using art to connect, inspire, and challenge perceptions.
